I can’t stop ordering dog toys with weird names!
Who are your pets? What are their nicknames? We want to hear from you in the comments!
Today, we commemorate the end of COYOTE’s Pet Week, our ode to the brilliant creatures we live with and clean up after. To celebrate, we’ve decided to have an open thread (our first!) all about ‘em.
From 8 am to 5 pm PDT today, commenting privileges on this post will be open to all COYOTE members, so jump in and tell us about your beloved pet(s), past and present! Share your favorite story about them. Talk about the first time you met and realized that they were 100% coming home with you. Drop some of the dozen nicknames you have for them! (Or the made-up song you sing to them when you two are alone.)
Future open threads will likely be for paid subscribers only, but we wanted a chance for everyone to share in the camaraderie of at least one.
For inspiration, we invite you to read through all of the great stories we ran this week: Nuala on her Chewy obsession and her adventure dog! s.e. smith on the politics of mourning and grieving one's pet! Emma on how her kid and three-legged cat Lenny became besties!
We’ve also received many lovely remembrances since launching our pet obituary page on Monday, so take a peek at those, too.
With that out of the way, what’s the weirdest thing your pet ate off the sidewalk?
Note: We encourage funny, silly, thoughtful, earnest, etc. comments, and even sincere debate. If you post spam, or anything bigoted, or harass people, however, we will delete your posts and ban you. Seriously — don’t be a jerk. If you encounter anyone violating these rules, email hello@coyotemedia.org.
