Yap Zone: Pro-Doug and Anti-Doug
A "Doug" event during SF Sketchfest opens a can of worms.
Earlier this month, COYOTE editors and artshead Emma Silvers proposed on our Slack that we do a quick list of recommended events for SF Sketchfest, the yearly comedy festival that packs the city's venues with standup acts, variety shows, and other events made to make you guffaw — LOL even! (You can read our picks here.)
One thing immediately jumped out at me (Soleil): the "Doug" 35th Anniversary Reunion on Jan. 25, during which the elder millennial cartoon series' original voice actors and show creator would assemble to reminisce and do a Q&A.
In creator Jim Jinkins' bio, sweater-vested series protagonist Doug Funnie is described as "a character who has touched the hearts and lifted the spirits of millions of children around the world." And as a certified "Doug" hater, I'm here to say: FUCK no!

My visceral disgust for the lovable cartoon confused everyone and generated a 67-reply Slack thread full of questions. So for this week's Yap Zone, I hopped on the phone to talk it through with my fellow COYOTE worker-owner, Rahawa Haile, a "Killer Tofu" fan with lots of fond memories of the show.
