Surprising sports fans, mysterious hums, and something called “the handshake of monogamy.” These are the stories we didn’t wind up doing, but kind of wish we had.
The West Coast’s first installment of the Bodega Rave Tour was a late-night rager at a Mr. Liquor near Fisherman's Wharf.
As COYOTE’s resident 365 party girl, I’ve been to my fair share of clubs, festivals, and late-night events. One place I’ve never partied before? A liquor store. That is, until last Friday, when the Bodega Rave Tour transformed a liquor store near Fisherman’s Wharf into a party with Latin, Caribbean, and house beats.
Put on by MUNDO Soundsystem, this party marked the first West Coast rave for the Bronx-based DJ collective founded by Dos Flakos and DJ Guari. Following the success of New York’s underground bodega raves, the party was part of an expansion tour that included Chicago and San Francisco. Though the location wasn’t announced until the day of, the event had a good number of people lined up outside of Mr. Liquor on North Point Street by 10pm.
With dozens of partygoers, cute signature cocktails, and music so good it even had the crew making the late-night bites dancing, the rave brought a little piece of the Bronx nightlife scene to the Bay.
