The Olympics Has a New Sex Testing Policy. The Evidence Doesn’t Add Up
I’ve spent over 10 years obsessed with so-called “gender verification” tests. Proponents claim they have history and science on their side. They don’t.

A look at why we do what we do, plus some BTS snaps.
This week we've got kelp, cats, clowns, and several ways to celebrate Trans Day of Visibility.
One of the COYOTE's values is that we never want this publication to feel transactional, but as a collaborative effort. (Though, yes, we do participate in the exchange of money for goods and services. Thank you for your support!)
The worker-owners of COYOTE aren't enclosed in an office somewhere, manufacturing hot takes on cities we've been to for like five minutes; we're enjoying (and at times, enduring) life in the Bay Area, just as you are. When we're working on stories we're out in our communities: interviewing residents of permanent supportive housing, playing billiards with the subjects of our pieces, holding meetups with our readers at Casements, photographing small businesses, and, yes, posing with ribs.
Go to one of the events we list on our calendar, and you'll probably see one of us picking mushrooms or listening to an author talk alongside you. Now that us former newspaper staffers have cut ourselves loose from organizations that prohibit political activity, you'll see us at protests, too.
All that is to say: we're with you.
